    Sheriff’s Report
    Brittny D. Kueker, 17, Ervington, was arrested September 30, 2009 by Randolph County Sheriff’s Office on a Randolph County warrant for failure to appear on a retail theft charge. Bond is $3,000. Is incarcerated.
    Jeremy R. Varnum, 24, Tilden, was arrested October 1, 2009 by Randolph County Sheriff’s Office on a Randolph County warrant for Failure to appear operating uninsured vehicle, and a Perry County warrant for Failure to appear improper use of registration, failure to wear seat belt, operating uninsured vehicle, and no valid driver’s license. Is incarcerated.
    Jason R. McConnell ,31, Chester, was arrested October 1, 2009 by Randolph County Sheriff’s Office for driving while license suspended, and operating uninsured motor vehicle. Released after posting $100 cash bond.

    Ferron D. Hill, 29, Steeleville, was arrested October 2, 2009 by Randolph County Sheriff’s Office for Domestic battery and criminal trespass to real property. Released after posting $750.00 cash bond.
    William A. Kane, 54, Chester, was arrested October 2, 2009 by Chester Police for Domestic Battery. Released after posting $500.00 cash bond.
    Randall J. Walter, 50, Evansville, was arrested October 3, 2009 by Randolph County Sheriff’s Office for DUI, Assault, and driving while license revoked. Released after posting $300.00 cash bond.
    Sharon L. Hanks, 57, Wentzville MO, was arrested October 3, 2009 by Sparta Police for DUI and failure to signal. Released after posting $100.00 cash bond.
    Jose A. Reyes, 31, Carbondale, was arrested October 4, 2009 by Chester Police for driving while license suspended, improper lane usage, and operating uninsured motor vehicle. Released after posting $100.00 cash bond.
    Frank S. Childs, 32, Chester, was arrested October 4, 2009 by Chester Police for DUI, No valid driver’s license, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Released after posting $300.00 cash bond.
    James C. Pritchard, 24, Chester, was arrested October 4, 2009 by Chester Police for aggravated battery. Is incarcerated.
    Glyn A. Pritchard, 21, Chester, was arrested October 4, 2009 by Chester Police for aggravated battery. Is incarcerated.
    Kenneth B. Dotson, 24, Sparta, was arrested October 4, 2009 by Randolph County Sheriff’s Office for obstructing justice and a Perry County warrant for contempt of court driving while license suspended, DUI, and no insurance. Is incarcerated.
    Melissa M. Patisaul, 37, Sparta, was arrested October 4, 2009 by Randolph County Sheriff’s Office for driving while license suspended. Released after posting $100.00 cash bond.
    Accident
    On 10-03-09 Mark A. Johnson, 36, of Springerville, AZ, was involved in an accident at St. Rt. 4 & St. Rt. 150, Steeleville.  Johnson was traveling south on State Rt. 4.  He failed to stop at the intersection with State Rt. 150, struck a directional roadway sign, and dropped into a ditch with a cluster of trees.  His vehicle overturned onto the driver’s side, and the driver required extrication from the vehicle.

    Sheriff’s Report
    On Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at 6:39 p.m. the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Jackson County Ambulance Service responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Rt. 127 and Ava Rd. north of Murphysboro.  A Dodge Caravan, driven by Delmar Crow age 48 of Murphysboro, was stopped on Ava Rd. attempting to cross Rt. 127.  The Crow vehicle attempted to cross the highway and was struck by a southbound vehicle driven by Taylor Hinkle, age 18, of Murphysboro.  Rt.127 has the right-of-way at this intersection.  Crow was issued a citation for failure to yield.  All occupants refused treatment by the ambulance service.  All were wearing seatbelts.
    On Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at 9:20 p.m. the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Ava Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Kessel Rd. west of Rt. 151 in Ava.  An Oldsmobile Intrigue driven by Andrew Erbes, age 22, of Murphysboro failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and struck a tree.  The Jackson County Ambulance Service transported Erbes to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Murphysboro.  Zachary Treece, age 21, of Murphysboro, a passenger in the vehicle, was also transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital.  Three other occupants reported no injury and refused treatment.  No citations were issued.
    On Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at 9:37 p.m. the Jackson County Deputies responded to 70 Clock Rd. in Carbondale for a report of a domestic disturbance.  A female reported being beaten by her boyfriend.  It was learned the female was staying at her sister’s residence and the boyfriend broke into the apartment and battered the female.  The female attempted to call 911, but alleged the male took the phone and broke it to prevent her from calling.  The female and her eight-year-old son fled to a nearby residence where the residents called the police.  The male was located in the immediate area and was detained.  He was identified as Johnathan Salter, age 29 of Carbondale.  Salter was arrested for Home Invasion, Domestic Battery, and Interfering with the Reporting of Domestic Violence.  The female was injured and was transported by personal vehicle to St. Joseph’s Memorial Hospital.  Salter is incarcerated at the Jackson County Jail pending bond.
    On Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at approximately 10:50 p.m. the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 290 Warren Rd. #92 Carbondale for a suicidal subject.  Officers learned a female subject threatened to harm herself and left the residence on foot.  The female’s roommate tipped officers to the possible whereabouts of the female.  Officers located the female on a SIUC pedestrian overpass, which crosses over Rt. 51.  She was found standing on a 2-inch handrail about forty feet above the highway.  The female threatened to jump.  Deputies were able to talk her into sitting on the rail, and with the  assistance of SIUPD, officers were able to secure her from the rail.  The female was detained for safety reasons.  The Jackson County Ambulance Service transported her to the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for a mental health evaluation.

    On 09-28-09 Christen M. Fink, 26, of DuQuoin, IL, was arrested for Deception on a Bank.  He is incarcerated.
    On 09-29-09 Larry G. Thompson, 35, of Cutler, IL, was arrested for Driving While License Revoked.  He is incarcerated.
    On 09-30-09 William Virgil Huggins, 34, of DuQuoin, IL, was arrested for FTA-Possession of Drug Paraphernalia/DUI.  He is incarcerated.
    On 10-01-09 Dilan Koby Shurtz, 18, of DuQuoin, IL, was arrested for Violation of Probation (Unlawful Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor).  Is incarcerated.
    On 10-02-09 Shawn R. Zieman, 30, of DuQuoin, IL, was arrested on a Body Attachment-Contempt of Court.  He is incarcerated.
    On 10-03-09 Johnny J. Stevens, 39, of Willisville, IL, was arrested for DUI, Driving While License Revoked, and Improper Lane Usage.  He was released by posting $300.00 cash bond.
    On 10-03-09 Michael L. Eaton, 22, was arrested for Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Is incarcerated.
    Accidents
    On 09-30-09 Richard D. Stokes, 51, of O’Fallon, IL, and Megan D. Devenport, 26, of Makanda, IL, were involved in an accident.  Stokes was traveling westbound on St. Rt. 152, entered into the intersection and struck Devenport, causing her vehicle to go off the pavement on the west side of St. Rt. 13/127.  Devenport’s vehicle overturned and came to a rest in the ditch.  She was taken to the Pinckneyville Hospital and then transported to a St. Louis hospital.
    On 10-01-09 Joseph L. Swallers, 58, of DuQuoin, IL, was involved in a truck/deer accident.  Swallers was traveling westbound on Pyatt-Cutler Road, and struck a deer with the front of the pickup truck, causing damage to the front of the truck.
    On 10-01-09 Jason C. Heinemeyer, 20, of Steeleville, IL, was involved in a truck/deer accident.  Heinemeyer was traveling eastbound on Jamestown Rd., ¼ mile east of State Rt. 150, when he struck a deer with the front of the pickup truck, causing damage to his pickup truck.
    On 10-03-09 Ronald G. Pyron, 47, of DuQuoin, IL, was involved in a car/deer accident.  Pyron was traveling on Rt. 14 and struck a deer in the roadway causing major damage to his vehicle.
    On 10-04-09 Colton Todd Woodside, 17, of DuQuoin, IL, was involved in a truck/deer accident.  Woodside was traveling westbound on E. Park Road   and struck a deer with the front of his pickup truck, causing damage to the front of the truck.

    54-year-old William A. Kane of Chester was arrested October 2, 2009 for Domestic Battery.

    25-year-old Brandy Webb Helmers of Cahokia, IL, was arrested October 5, 2009 for Possession of Controlled Substance and an In State Warrant.
    Heather M. Ilberry of Chester was issued Notices to Appear on October 4, 2009 for Restraint of Dog X2, Cruelty to Animals X2, Food and Shelter X2, and Number of Animal Limitation.
    Stephen P. Shaw of Chester was issued Notices to Appear on October 4, 2009 for Food and Shelter and Cruelty to Animals.
    On September 30, 2009 the Chester Police Department filed a juvenile petition against a 16-year-old male student for Unlawful Possession of Cannabis, after police located approximately 11 grams of Cannabis in the student’s vehicle.  The charges are a result of a canine search of the school and the parking lot.
    During the week the Chester Police Department responded to or issued: 1 Warning Ticket and 5 Accidents.

    On 09-28-09 Lonnie W. Willis, 50, of Sparta, IL, was arrested on a RC warrant for Failure to Appear.  Posted bond.
    On 09-29-09 Jessi L. Kempfer, 28, of Marissa, IL, was arrested for Trespass to Walmart Property.  Was given a court date of 10-26-09.
    On 09-29-09 Marissa R. Shaw, 24, of Chester, IL, was cited for Trespass to Walmart Property.  Was given a court date of 10-26-09.
    On 10-01-09 George D. Laws, 64, of Sparta, IL, was cited by code enforcement for Dangerous Building.  Was given a city court date of 10-20-09.
    On 10-01-09 a 15-year-old male, of Sparta, IL, and 15-year-old female, of Sparta, was cited for Trespass at the Old Lincoln School Building.
    Accidents
    On 09-29-09 a car driven by Kimberly A. Barker, 46, Sparta, struck a parked car belonging to Joyce L. Copple, Sparta, in the 600 Blk. W. First.  Virgil W. Easton, 60, Sparta, was standing at the parked car with the door open when the Barker car struck the Copple car.  Easton was injured and transported to Sparta Hospital with minor injuries.  Barker was cited for Improper Lane Usage.
    On 10-03-09 drivers Marilyn S. May, 57, Sparta, and Jessie R. Monroe, 18, Sparta, were involved in an accident at Market and Masonic.
    On  10-04-09 drivers Yvonne L. Rehmer, 38, Sparta, and Thomas L. Bonner, 30, Oak Grove, LA, were involved in an accident in the 600 Blk. N. Market.
