  • As summer is approaching many are looking for fun outdoor activities they can enjoy with their families and friends. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers invites everyone to come out to the Kaskaskia River Project and enjoy the beautiful weather and great river conditions.
The Kaskaskia River Project offers 15 campsites that are available on a first come first serve basis. The Campground amenities include electric hook-ups, a vault comfort station, asphalt camp pads and in the near future it will also include drinking water.
The trailhead of the half mile long Kaskaskia river confluence trail is also locate adjacent to the campground. Come and walk through the bottomland forest on our new universally accessible tail that takes visitors out to the confluence of the Kaskaskia and Mississippi Rivers. Enjoy beautiful views overlooking the Mississippi River, new picnic sites and fire pit, or reflect and watch the river and wildlife while sitting on the new stone amphitheater.
A large reservable picnic shelter with grill is available for cookouts, family reunions, birthday parties and other group events. The visitor information center as the lock and dam site is open seven days a week from 8 to 4:30. Lock and dam tours are always available upon request. There are two boat ramps, one upstream and one downstream, that are conveniently located right on site where visitors can launch their boats.
Remember that river currents can be dangerous and wearing life jacket when fishing and boating will help ensure that everyone will return home safely. Drowning is the nation’s fifth leading cause of accidental death, yet just by simply wearing a life jacket it could save your life.
Kaskaskia River Project park rangers encourage everyone to check out the upcoming events on their website at www.mvs.usace.army.mil/kaskaskia/.
For more information contact the Kaskaskia River Project Office at 4800 Lock and Dam Road, Modoc, IL 62261, call (618) 284-7160, or email at KaskyL&D@usace.army.mil.
