The new Mine Simulation Training Facility on Southeastern Illinois College's Harrisburg campus will see its first use June 13 and 14, as the sixth annual Mine Rescue and Skills Competition is held by the college and partner agency Illinois Eastern Community Colleges.

The owners of Walker's Bluff in Carterville are disappointed that the Illinois House ended its session Wednesday without acting on the bill that would give them the gambling license they crave.
Gander Mountain store in Marion to close

"Going out of business" signs are up at the Gander Mountain store in Marion, the outdoor gear supplier that opened its southern Illinois location on May 7, 2015. All the Gander Mountain stores are closing, the company has announced. It filed for bankruptcy on March 10.

Gander Mountain will remain open at Marion location

MARION - The Marion location of Gander Mountain will remain open, despite the company's decision to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Friday. Gander Mountain is the nation's largest retail network of outdoor specialty items for hunters, fishermen and campers, including firearms and ammunition. It also features outdoor apparel and footwear.
Mount Vernon elevator maker moves into bigger quarters

Phoenix Modular Elevator's new 25,000-square-foot manufacturing plant is the first tenant of Mount Vernon's new industrial park, south of Route 15 and west of I-64. The company says it outgrew its old location in a former shoe factory in the middle of Mount Vernon.
