Holiday Lights Fair open; thousands expected to come to Du Quoin
The 20th annual fair opened for the 2019 season on Thanksgiving evening, giving viewers more than three miles of lighted displays, some familiar and some new.

10th annual Burg Comics Con set for Saturday in Harrisburg
HARRISBURG -- The 10th annual Burg Comics Con will return Saturday at the Bonan Business Center in Harrisburg. The family-friendly event is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features a packed house of vendors, gaming, cosplay, and of course all things comics, including comic book writers and illustrators. There also is a silent auction that runs from 10 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

The planning committee for the annual Popeye Car Cruise has been busy with the upcoming "Cruisin' with Popeye" Car Cruise on Sept. 7, a highly anticipated part of this year's Popeye Picnic on Sept. 6-8.

SI Sportsman Show still attracts regional interest
The fourth annual Southern Illinois Sportsman Show, held this past weekend at the Exhibition Hall on the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds, was again an immense success, drawing hundreds to the event over the two-day show.

Tickets available for concert, dinner benefit for Morris Library
SIU's Friends of Morris Library annual fundraiser will feature a performance by Fiddle Rick and the Bourbon Boys, as well as a catered meal. The event is slated for 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 21 in the Student Center Ballrooms.
