The Randolph County Historical Society begins its year with
“History Talks -- Carole Listens”
MARCH 18th, 2010, at the Chester Country Club - Rt. 3 N. at 6 p.m.  The Carole is Historian and Researcher Carole Goggin    who invites you to travel through the centuries with her as she presents “Making the Most of Your Cemetery Visit.”  The talk includes the changing beliefs of the afterlife, materials used for burial markers, and the meanings behind the headstone pictures. 
She uses humor to share lessons learned the hard way, in example  --- what poison ivy really looks like.  She also shares tips and hints for locating abandoned cemeteries and methods of recording what is found on the markers.
 Membership is not necessary to attend.  For information, call Marlene at 826-3330.
There is a Buffet Dinner at 6:30 p.m.
The next meeting April 15, will be a tour to Cahokia with lunch & a visit to the historic sites there.
May 20, the group meets at Fort de Chartres with an opportunity to visit in the large complex.
June 5 & 6, the fun event is at the Bake Oven at Fort de Chartres.
July 15th, there is Pot Luck dinner at the 8-sided Charter Oak Schoolhouse. 6 p.m.
August 7th is the 49th Annual Corn Fest at Charter Oak School.
August 19th is scheduled for a trip to a Fort at Germantown.
September 19th is the Open House Apple Fete at Creole House in Prairie du Rocher.
October 21 will feature a “Treasures from the Past” program and election of officers.
