Peggy Ledbetter of Marion brought not one, not two, not three, but four dogs to be blessed at St. James' annual blessing of the animals in honor of St. Francis.

Ledbetter and others who recently participated in the blessing of the animals at the Marion church also took time to learn how to construct simple cat shelters that can save the lives of feral cats during cold weather.

Anyone interested in picking up free materials and instructions for building cat shelters may call St. James Episcopal Church at (618) 529-4316 to arrange a pickup time for the materials, which are available at no cost.

The church is located at 301 Thorn Ave. in Marion.
