A Midnight Masquerade: Chester High School caps prom with coronations

Chester High School celebrated Prom 2018 with a "Midnight Masquerade" and the crowning of the event's royal couple, King Zach Zappa and Queen Sydney Korando, at Juergen's Gym on April 7.

Kristen Petrowske served as Master of Ceremonies for the coronation and began by introducing the junior class prince and princess candidates. Cara Childs was the first princess candidate. She was escorted by fellow junior class member and prince candidate Drake Bollman. Childs is the daughter of Mindy and Bryan Childs. Bollman is the son of Tim and Shelly Bollman.

Shea Petrowske was the next princess candidate. She is the daughter of Ryan and Joby Petrowske. Shea was escorted by junior class prince candidate Erik Cowell. Erik is the son of Rebecca and Todd Cowell.

The final junior class princess candidate was Carlee Weir, daughter of Jim and Mary Jo Weir. Miss Weir was escorted by prince candidate Jakob Cushman. Cushman is the son of Jess and Jackie Cushman.

Next it was time to meet the senior class queen and king candidates. The first queen candidate was Hanna Bert, daughter of Tim and Michelle Bert. Hanna was escorted by king candidate Jacob Haberberger, son of Michael and Cheryl Haberberger.

Next was queen candidate Jessica Kattenbraker. Jessica is the daughter of Philip and Shannon Kattenbraker. Jessica's escort for the evening was king candidate Joshua Haberberger. Josh is the son of Michael and Cheryl Haberberger.

The third set of candidates were Sydney Korando and senior king candidate Curt Meyer. Sydney is the daughter of John Korando and Melinda Korando. Curt is the son of Jeffery and Melissa Meyer.

The fourth queen candidate was Bailey Misuraca, daughter of Bob and Barb Misuraca. Bailey was escorted by senior king candidate Joe Soellner. Joe is the son of Larry and Melissa Soellner.

The fifth and final queen candidate was Emma Naeger. She is the daughter of Chris Naeger and Stephanee Ward. Her escort for the coronation was Zach Zappa. He is the son of Jay and Beth Zappa.

Before announcing the 2018 prom royalty, the retiring 2017 CHS King and Queen were introduced. The retiring King was Jack Weir, son of Jim and Mary Jo Weir. The retiring Queen was Emily Tudor. Jack and Emily returned to CHS to crown the new 2018 CHS Prom King and Queen.

Emily is currently a freshman at Southeast Missouri State University. She is majoring in English Education. She hopes to eventually teach high school English. Jack is a freshman at John A. Logan College. He is highly involved in intramural basketball and volleyball.

Following the introductions of all of the various candidates, Petrowske announced the 2018 Prince and Princess as well as the King and Queen Runners-up and the 2018 CHS Prom King and Queen.

The 2018 Prom Princess from the junior class was Shea Petrowske. The 2018 Prom Prince was junior Jakob Cushman.

The 2018 Queen Runner-Up was senior Jessica Kattenbraker. The King Runner-Up was Curt Meyer, a senior.

The 2018 Chester High School Prom Queen was senior Sydney Korando. The 2018 Chester High School King was senior Zach Zappa. Sydney is a member of the National Honor Society, Band, Swing Choir and SADD. She intends to study pharmacology in college and would like to be a pharmacist at a hospital.

Zach is involved in National Honor Society, Band, Swing Choir, Drama Club, Cross Country, Track, WYSE, Scholar Bowl, and Swing Choir. He plans on going to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where he wants to major in Biological Sciences.

Petrowske also thanked juniors Carlee Weir, Lauren Welge, Elizabeth Soellner, Shea Petrowske, and Kamryn Wingerter for their coordination and work to make the 2018 prom such a beautiful success.

"I want to express my gratitude and pride in these special ladies that I have had the pleasure of working with," she said.

"The junior class officers and representatives have been working tirelessly since November to make this night come true."
