Once again, two Catholic schools in Randolph County went head to head to earn the coveted Can Trophy for collecting the most canned goods during the month of November.

The 2018 contest was won by the St. John's Hornets of Red Bud for the third consecutive year, in a squeaker over the St. Mary's Hawks of Chester.

The trophy was awarded to the Hornets during the recent St. John's vs. St. Mary's basketball game.

Each year both schools go above and beyond the previous year's collection. All items collected are given to the local food pantries for each school.

There really is no loser under the circumstances, considering that between the two schools more than 7,000 canned items were collected this year alone.
