Chester High School senior parents met Sunday January 23 to further discuss the 2011 CHS Project Graduation. It was the third such meeting of the parents since the beginning of the year and plans are well underway for the all night drug, alcohol and tobacco-free graduation party.

The annual Chester Veterans’ Day program will be held at the Chester American Legion Post 487 at 500 Opdyke Street on November 11 beginning at 10:00 a.m. to honor all veterans.
Commander Roland Wagner of the American Legion invites the public to attend this program to thank those veterans who have served our country and to show support for those men and women who are serving in the military today.
As plans continue for the City of Chester’s 22nd Annual Christmas on the River celebration new and returning events are being planned.
The celebration officially starts with the “Grand Illumination” at Chester Square Gazebo Park. For the first time this holiday season, the lights of the community Christmas tree will be lit by Mayor Joe Eggemeyer. A dedication of the holiday season will be given and the Chester High School Band, directed by Steve Colonel, will dazzle the community with holiday music. Mike Lochhead will be the Master of Ceremonies for this event.
The Steeleville Jaycees met Tues. Aug, 17 to work on plans for this year’s 28th annual Oktoberfest that will be held on Oct. 8 and 9th in downtown Steeleville. The theme for this year’s Oktoberfest is “Down on the Farm” and will feature many of the festival favorites as well as some new activities.
Once again a red neon cross atop St. John Lutheran School in Chester will be shining brightly each evening.
A cross was first installed nearly a half-century ago, serving as a memorial for the St. John congregation’s beloved assistant pastor, Rev. Henry Gerecke who died unexpectantly of a heart attack on October 11, 1961.
The Midwest’s largest gathering of 1700s era soldiers, settlers, traders and campers celebrates its 40th anniversary this year as the Annual Rendezvous at Fort de Chartres will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 5 and 6 at Fort de Chartres State Historic Site near Prairie du Rocher.

The Manor at Craig Farms held their car show on September 13th at the Manor. Over 20 cars vied for trophies in the category of “Longest Miles Driven” won by Mike Wiegard; “Best of Show” won by Roger McCormick; and “Administrator's Choice” won by Rosemary Braun.

The brilliant muzzle flash of a 1700s cannon after dark will be a special feature of this year’s Artillery Safety School, "Firing Into the Night," to be held Saturday and Sunday, September 12 and 13, at Fort de Chartres State Historic Site near Prairie du Rocher, Illinois. The event is free and open to the public.
The Popeye Picnic Committee is proud to announce a fantastic new carnival will thrill the guests at this year’s festival. JCJ Amusements will provide many exciting rides that will fill the vacated Gilster Mary-Lee parking lots located behind the Chester National Bank and across from Sweet Pea's, as well as the parking lot adjacent to Peace Lutheran Church.. The carnival rides will open at 4:00 pm on Friday, noon on Saturday, and noon on Sunday.
