A Thursday head-on accident on Route 3 north of Canter Road sent two people to the hospital, according to the Illinois State Police.

Two vehicles were initially involved, while a third suffered splash damage from the collision.

The crash report states a 2007 Dodge Charger - driven by 30-year-old Michael R. Steibel of Prairie du Rocher - was northbound on Route 3 when he attempted to turn left into N&B Fuel Mart, south of Red Bud.

Steibel allegedly failed to yield for a 2000 Ford pickup - driven by 34-year-old Joseph D. Walker of Crystal Springs, Mississippi - pulling a trailer that was southbound on Route 3.

The pickup then struck the Charger, with debris striking a nearby 2006 Dodge van - driven by 68-year-old Doris M. Liefer of Red Bud - that was parked at the gas station.

Steibel reportedly suffered "non-life threatening" injuries and was transported to Red Bud Regional Hospital for treatment. A passenger in Walker"s vehicle, 56-year-old Kenneth B. Harvey (also of Crystal Springs) suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene.

Walker, Liefer and a passenger in Liefer"s vehicle - 21-year-old Cassandra M. Duncan of Red Bud - were not injured.

Steibel was ticketed for failure to yield and failure to wear a seat belt. The accident was reported at 9:20 a.m.
