In a Tuesday news release, the Chester Police Department announced officers responded to eight separate vehicle burglaries over the weekend.
The reports were predominantly concentrated in a specific neighborhood across from the Randolph County Health Department. Residents on Alan, Edna and Neil streets, as well as Lakeview Drive, were affected in that neighborhood, among others.
The majority of the victims reported missing money that had been kept in their vehicles. According to police, no forced entry and no property damage was reported.
Apparently, the perpetrator or perpetrators only entered into unlocked vehicles.
The Chester Police Department urged residents that locking your home, vehicle and outbuildings at night serves as a great deterrent for would-be burglars.
The overwhelming majority of burglars enter into unlocked dwellings. The CPD is currently following up on a few leads and encourages anyone with information regarding the burglaries to contact the Chester Police Department at 618-826-5454.
