The Randolph County Sheriff's Office has been receiving reports of a scam occurring across the county.
Citizens have reported they have been receiving calls from local phone numbers with the caller stating that a child, grandchild or relative is in jail and needs bond money.
The caller will try to convince you that you must send the money immediately or your relative will not be able to post bond.
Sheriff Shannon Wolff is advising this is a scam to not send money.
"If you think your relative is actually in jail, ask the caller for the name of the county where the jail is located and call that facility to verify if the person is incarcerated," Wolff said in a news release. "Do not use a number provided to you by the caller.
"Please report all possible scams to the Randolph County Sheriff"s Office or your local law enforcement."
Those wishing to report a scam or illegal activity can contact the sheriff"s office at 618-826-5484.
