Both vehicles approached a hillcrest at the same time, with the Lincoln being over the centerline, and collided.

Another vehicle, driven by 35-year-old Austin Bradshaw of Sparta, was traveling south on County Road 5 and met Kern's vehicle in his lane of traffic.

Bradshaw moved to the right in attempt to avoid a collision with Kern. Kern continued to travel north in the southbound lane, eventually striking Bradshaw's vehicle 75 feet south of a driveway in the 3500 block of County Road 5.

Kern then crossed the northbound lane and the Focus came to rest down an embankment. Bradshaw's vehicle came to rest in the ditch of the southbound lane.
