The ballot is now set for the March 20 primary election and two Republicans will face off for the right to battle Democrat Bobby Klausing for Randolph County Clerk and Recorder in the November general election.

Cypress Gibson, of Coulterville, and Melanie Johnson, of Sparta, are the two Republicans vying for Pat Laramore's seat. The race is wide open after Laramore announced in July that she would not seek a fifth term.

County Treasurer Justin Jeffers now has an opponent, after Rockwood Republican Debbie Hoelscher filed as a candidate for treasurer. She is the wife of former County Sheriff and current EMA Coordinator Mike Hoelscher.

Family ties stretch into the sheriff's race, where Democratic incumbent Shannon Wolff faces a challenge from Coulterville Republican William Gibson. Cypress is William's daughter.

For county commissioner, incumbent Republican Marc Kiehna will battle Democratic challenger Wayne Voss.

Voss is currently serving his seventh term as supervisor of assessments in Randolph County. All three county commissioners, Dave Holder, chairman Ronnie White and Kiehna, are Republican.

Holder defeated Democratic challenger Randy Bertetto in the November 2016 election to earn a second six-year term and Republicans have won three straight elections to the county board.

There is only one candidate for Voss's current seat, Red Bud Democrat Doug Sachtleben.
