The Hucks Convenient Food Store on Broadway Street in Steeleville will expand its footprint to install diesel pumps.
The Steeleville City Council OK'd the project Thursday evening. Hucks has bought the house east of its property, which it will tear down, lay concrete and install the pumps.
Steeleville Mayor Bob Sutton said the city's truck traffic is significant -- roughly 900 trucks every 24 hours, mostly coming from local coal mines.
Meanwhile, Hucks has agreed to have trees and other greenery on the property to shield residential neighbors from the pumps and truck traffic.
Sutton said he expects the house will be demolished within the next 30 days, and the new pumps will be operational in a few months.
