DU QUOIN -- The Third Annual Farm-to-Table banquet in downtown Du Quoin was again well received Thursday as 170 Perry County residents paid the $40 ticket to wine and dine outdoors with friends and acquaintances. Traffic was rerouted to avoid the downtown area during both the social hour and serving of the meal.
Hosting the event was the Du Quoin Chamber of Commerce.
Executive Director Stacy Hirsch said the event's popularity continues to grow,
"We started with 150 tickets two years ago, went up to 160 last year and 170 this year," Hirsch said. "I have gotten a lot of positive feedback. People really seem to enjoy this event."
Hirsch said those restaurants participating in the preparation of the meal include: Saint Nicholas Brewing Company, The 'W' Restaurant and Lounge, Kalin's Cafe and Red Hawk Golf and Country Club.
Soft drinks were provided by Pepsi Mid-America. Wine was purchased from Blue Sky Vinyard. The blond ale was purchased from Saint Nicholas and other beer was bought from Venegoni Distributing.
A portion of the proceeds was paid to the farmers who provided the food. The remainder goes into the Chamber's general fund to help promote Du Quoin businesses throughout the year.
Hirsch said there has been talk about adding a second Farm-to-Table event, but that nothing has been confirmed at this time.
