Chicken dinner fundraiser Aug. 16
A "back to school" all you can eat chicken dinner fundraiser will be held Friday, Aug. 16 at the KC Hall. Sponsored by the Chester Rotary Club and held from 4:30-7 p.m., the menu will feature the Knights of Columbus Hall's famous fried chicken, sides and desserts. Tickets are $10; $5 for ages 6-10 and free for kids 5 and younger. The proceeds will go to the Rotary Scholarship fund.
Corn Fest returning Aug. 3 in Sparta
The annual Randolph County Historical Society fundraiser, featuring food and a period music jam, will be held Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Charter Oak schoolhouse, 9272 Schuline Road in Sparta. The country dinner will be served starting at 4 p.m., with fried chicken, unlimited corn on the cob, tomatoes, Indian pudding, ice cream and a drink. Tickets are $10 ($5 for ages 4-10; under 4 free). If you are joining the musical jam, bring your own chair.
Senior health fair on July 30
State Sen. Paul Schimpf will host a senior health and information fair from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, July 30 in the Red Bud High School gymnasium, 815 Locust St. in Red Bud. Learn how to lead a happier and healthier life; meet with vendors to discuss programs that benefit seniors; blood pressure, blood sugar and bone density screenings will be done. Free admission and free refreshments.
SWIC enrollment blitz is July 24-25
Thinking about college but worried about the enrollment process? At Southwestern Illinois College you can enroll for the fall semester during the July 24-25 Registration Blitz at the Belleville Campus, 2500 Carlyle Ave. Hours are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday and noon-5 p.m. Thursday. During those hours you can complete an application and get a student ID number; take the placement test for English and Math; meet with an academic adviser; set up eSTORM and SWIC student email accounts; get information on financial aid and payment arrangements; and register for classes.
