A longtime tradition was continued this year on the first day of school, when retired teachers gathered at the home of Norma Baughman Aug. 15 to sit in relaxing lawn chairs and wave to passing students, parents and teachers as they entered Chester Grade School to begin the new school year.

Baughman lives within several hundred yards of the school and retired teachers traditionally gather on the front sidewalk to visit, enjoy light refreshments and wave.

This year there were 13 retired teachers who joined in the fun. And once the children were all safely in school another tradition was upheld -- the teachers went out to breakfast.
