WSIL will televise Bald Knob Cross sunrise Easter service
For the first time in 84 years, the public is not invited to the Easter Sunrise Service being held April 12 atop Bald Knob Mountain in Alto Pass. Due to the current COVID-19 stay-at-home order, however, the service will be televised on WSIL-TV Channel 3 and livestreamed from WSIL TV website and Facebook page.

Steeleville Nutrition Center needs volunteer meal drivers
The Steeleville Area Nutrition Center is continuing to serve lunches to seniors during the coronavirus pandemic, but they could use some help. Now that the center is closed to foot traffic, meals are either being given to clients in their cars, or delivered by volunteers to homes.

Volunteers help package and distribute free meals to students
Free breakfasts and lunches -- provided by the Chester schools to children up to age 18 since the coronavirus pandemic closed all Illinois schools on March 17 -- will be offered on Monday only next week, as next week is District 139's scheduled spring break.

Spring sports coaches, players resigned to short season
Illinois high school athletes took another punch to the gut this week, as Gov. J.B. Pritzker's extension of the stay-at-home order until April 30 means the spring sports season cannot start before May 1.

Letter to the editor: Bryant says lockdown of state prisons must continue
To the editor: As 115th District state representative, I have been frustrated with recent policy decisions made by the Illinois Department of Corrections and the Pritzker Administration. Daily news reports are detailing multiple IDOC inmates and staff members are contracting COVID-19 and occupying hospital bed space in community hospitals. I warned Illinois Corrections officials a month ago that they should implement lockdown at state corrections facilities. Thankfully, IDOC did finally take the step to lockdown its facilities two weeks ago.

Chester Area Christian Food Pantry open for business, outdoors
The Chester Area Christian Food Pantry is handing out food as usual these days, just not indoors. At the Koeneman Acres Food Pantry location, clients can no longer go inside, but must remain in their automobiles as staffers bring the food to you.
