On April 2, 2010, at approximately 1 p.m., the Chester Police Department received a burglary complaint from Memorial Hospital in Chester.  The report described a white 4-door Cadillac occupied by a black male driver, heading east on Route 150 from the hospital.

On July 24, 2010 the Chester Police Department arrested 31-year-old Joseph Allen Mattingly and 36-year-old Michael Lee Mattingly, both of Chester.  Both subjects were arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine, Participation in Methamphetamine Production and Possession of Methamphetamine Precursors

The Subway store in Chester suffered significant damage from an early afternoon fire on Monday, July 5, causing it to be deemed a total loss.
According to Chester Fire Department 1st Captain Marty Bert a utility pole located behind the store was rotted at the bottom of the pole and was set to be replaced as early as today. Due to the pole being rotted it dropped the wires 6 to 8 feet below the normal height, which caused a semi-truck to clip the wires as he drove through the alley between Subway and the Western Egyptian Thrift Store.

CHESTER - Drivers: Now that school is out and the weather is warm, pedestrians and bicyclists will be out much more often.  Please keep a close eye as you drive and remember that all pedestrians (joggers and walkers) and bicyclists have the right-of-way.
Remember that warmer weather also means motorcycling season.  Please pay close attention to motorcyclists as you travel.
Nuisance Ordinance reminders:
 • Yard sale signs and other ads are prohibited from being posted on utility poles in the City of Chester.
  • Failure to maintain the grass and weeds on your property is a violation of City Ordinance.  Please be sure to maintain your property to avoid a notice a violation.
  • Placing your waste, such as grass clippings or leaves in your trash tote is prohibited in the City of Chester.  We suggest bagging yard waste and calling the maintenance department to arrange a pick up.  Call 826-3712.
  • Open burning of yard waste, garbage, etc. is prohibited in the City of Chester.
  • All parks in the City of Chester close at 11 p.m. each evening.
  • While walking your dog, please be sure to clean up any excrement left behind by the animal and dispose of it in the appropriate receptacle.
  • A reminder that it is also a violation of city ordinance to fail to properly restrain your dog and/or have complete control of your dog at all time during walks.

RANDOLPH COUNTY - The Belleville News-Democrat reported last week that Randolph County Sheriff Fred Frederking turned over a rape case, involving a 14-year old Baldwin girl, to the State’s Attorney Randy Rodewald on May 6.
Rodewald said that he is studying the case and has not made a determination on issuing charges. He said he has no other comment on the case at this time.
Back in April, Frederking disputed the Belleville paper’s contention that his department had botched the case.

 At approximately 4:00 p.m. the Chester Fire Department was called to ConAgra in Chester for a grain bin explosion. Five out-of-state contractors were injured as a result of an explosion at the ConAgra mill in Chester on Tuesday, April 27.
Justin Becker, Iowa and Robert Schmitdz of Minnesota were airlifted to St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis. John Jentz was flown to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. All three men were in serious condition. Two other men were taken to Memorial Hospital in Chester with minor injuries.

One year ago today Sheri Coleman, 31, and her sons Garrett, 11, and Gavin, 9, were found strangled to death in their Columbia home.
Today, former Chester resident Chris Coleman sits in the Monroe County Jail charged with the murders of his wife and sons.

The Belleville News-Democrat reported Sunday that the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department has reopened a rape case as a result of the newspaper’s investigation.
Capt. Janice Barbour, of the sheriff’s department led the investigation and had recently officially closed the case.
