At their regularly scheduled city council meeting held Monday night, the council approved Mayor Joe Eggemeyer’s appointment of Kenny Dillman to fill the alderman vacancy of Ward 1. The seat became vacant when Alderman Dan Colvis moved out of Ward 1. Dillman will remain in the seat until 2011 when the seat comes up for vacancy.
The council approved an agreement with inAlliance (Charlotte Anderson) and White & Borgononi (Gail White) for the ITEP Cycle 9 Bicycle, Pedestrian and Interpretative Trail Application Development. The city agreed to pay Charlotte Anderson $400 for travel expenses and 3% - up to $20,000 of the grant obtained. She was granted authority to pursue additional grants to cover the city’s share. If the additional grants can not be obtained the city would be responsible for the 3% to be paid to Anderson.
Approval of the recommendation of J. T. Blankinship to accept a proposal from E. T. Simonds for Branch Street overlay was approved in the amount of $79,861.40. J. T. Blankinship’s recommendation to accept the proposal from Illini Asphalt for an oil and slag program in the amount of $24,043 was approved. IDOT’s resolution was also approved.
In other council news:
The council approved the closing date of August 15, 2010 for the Chester Municipal Pool.
• Tisha Coffey was approved to fill the cleaning position at city hall/police department at the rate of $8.50 an hour.
• The mayor’s appointment of Paula Platt and David Eggemeyer to the Beautification Commission was approved by the council.
• The council approved the resolution authorizing application to IDOT for the ITEP grant program for Chester Streetscape Plan, Phase 1.
• An ordinance designating a reduced speed limit of 25 mph on Murphysboro Road was approved.
• An ordinance prohibiting tractor trailer’s on Park Blvd. was approved.
• A request from Richard Mueller Farms to plant a Fall 2010 crop was approved.
• The council approved Kenny Dillman to fix up the existing outdoor restrooms at the high school mini park at the rate of $760 for materials.
A proposal from Red Dot Construction for demolition of house and garage at 111 Opdyke St. was approved in the amount of $6,110.
The council passed the IDOT resolution for Popeye Picnic road closure. The streets that will be closed are State St. from Stacey to Opdyke.
The next regularly scheduled council meeting will be held Monday, August 16 at 7:00 p.m. at city hall in the council chambers.
