With profound sadness we announce the passing of Janet Sue Coen (Andrews), our loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on May 2, 2019.
She left us while sleeping peacefully at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She was in her 67th year of life.
Janet will be fondly remembered by family and friends as an avid reader, a distinguished seamstress and quilter, author, world traveler, amateur archaeologist, business manager, proud patriot and loving mother.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family on her famous "Great Adventures".
Born in Decatur, she was the eldest daughter of Lloyd and the late M. Jean Andrews (Myers), and the beloved wife of S. Daniel Coen of Golconda for more than 48 years.
Janet was the much-loved mother of Brenda and Michael George of Springfield, Missouri, Melissa and Daniel LaRose of Illinois, Amy and Guido Schlabitz of Harrisburg, Paul and Maggie Coen of Carbondale, and the late Carolyn Louise Coen of Mesa, Arizona; the cherished grandmother of Quinton, Ryan, Sara and the late Mary Elizabeth George, Kirin and Kai Schlabitz, and Emmerson LaRose; the great-grandmother of Scarlett and Skylar George; and the dearest sister of Sandra Jean and Allen Gookin of Scottsdale, Arizona. Janet is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at First United Methodist Church of Golconda. Visitation will start at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of one's choice.
