Jacket baseball team splits week; big win over Red Bud, loss to Dupo

Chester's baseball Yellow Jackets won one and lost one the week of April 2-3. The Jackets traveled to Red Bud and shut out the Musketeers, 10-0 to improve to 6-4, then fell to Dupo at Chester's Cohen Complex in a close battle, 6-2.

CHS 10; Red Bud 0

Owen Korando got the win for Chester and Alex Kueker took the loss for the Musketeers. Korando pitched all five innings for the Jackets while Kueker had relief from Nathan Thies for one inning for Red Bud.

Chester had a good day at the plate producing 10 unanswered runs on 11 hits and 10 RBIs. The Jackets reached base twice on balls and had just two strikeouts. For the day, CHS stranded six baserunners.

In the successful day at the plate, Chester's Jaden Mott led the team going a perfect 3-3 with two RBIs. Ethan Bert, Michael Wingerter and Ethen Eggemeyer all went 2-4 and Nick Meyer was 1-4.

Ethen Eggemeyer had four RBIs followed by Nick Meyer (2), Jaden Mott (2), Chett Andrews (1) and Dylan Kelkhoff (1). The Jackets scored two in the first, three in the second, four in the fourth and one in the fifth inning to short-game the Musketeers. With the win, Chester improved to 6-4 overall.

Dupo 6; CHS 2

The Jackets returned to Cohen Field No. 1 on April 3 to host the Dupo Tigers, who jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and added another run in the top of the second.

Neither team scored again until the fifth inning when the Tigers added three more runs, for a 6-0 lead. After two more scoreless innings, the Yellow Jackets made an attempt to come back in the bottom of the seventh inning, but could only muster up two runs. Dupo won in seven innings, 6-2.

Devin Similey was the winning pitcher for the Tigers while Ethen Eggemeyer took the loss for the Yellow Jackets. Similey was relieved after four innings by Nik Houston. Both pitchers gave up two hits apiece. Similey walked four Chester batters before being relieved. He also struck out four.

Eggemeyer pitched four innings before being relieved by Chett Andrews who came in for two innings, and Nick Meyer, who relieved Andrews for the final inning. Eggemeyer gave up four hits and walked three Tigers, striking out seven. Andrews gave up two hits and walked one batter. Meyer gave up one hit, walked two Tigers and struck out two.

Ethan Bert led the Chester bats, going 2-4 at the plate and having one of Chester's two RBIs. Nick Meyer and Jaden Mott had Chester's other two hits, while Michael Wingerter had the other RBI for the home team. Chester sent 25 batters to the plate and produced two runs on four hits with two RBIs. Five Jackets reached base on balls and five struck out.

Dupo sent 31 batters to the plate and produced six runs on seven hits with four RBI's. Five Tigers reached base on balls while nine Dupo batters fell prey to Eggemeyer's and Meyer's pitching prowess.

With the loss, Chester fell to 6-5 overall.
