Harrisburg girls finish second at Mt. Carmel Invite

In the first big tournament of the young season, the Harrisburg boys took ninth out of 17 teams over the weekend at the Anna-Jonesboro McDonalds Challenge, held at Union County Country Club Saturday.

Benton won the event shooting a 295, while Marion took second with a 319. Nashville (334), Carbondale (335) and Herrin (336) rounded out the top five.

Trico (338), Massac County (340), Anna-Jonesboro (341), Harrisburg and West Frankfort (352) rounded out the top 10.

Carterville (373), Hamilton County (378), Chester (383), Steeleville (391), Goreville (417), Cobden (521) concluded the field.

For Harrisburg, Ashton Hall had a career-best round of 81, while Andrew Bittle and Grant Wilson both shot an 87 for the Bulldogs. Krayton Morse rounded out the top four scoring by shooting a 95.

Hayden Emery shot a 96 and Colby Morse followed up with a 112.


Both Harrisburg and boys defeated Zeigler-Royalton in their respective home opener as the Bulldog boys won 171-199 and the girls picked up a 174-202 victory.

Madison McClusky took medalist honors after shooting a 38 for Harrisburg, while Gabby Adams added a 42 for the Bulldogs. Gracie Behnke finished with a 44, while Madeleine DeNeal came in with a 50. Ann Marie Podoriscki finished with a 58 and Laken Moore had a 60.

On the boys side, Ashton Hall led the way with a 40, while Grant Wilson followed with a 41. Krayton Morse fired a 42 and Andrew Bittle carded a 48.


Harrisburg opened its season Thursday at the Mt. Carmel Invitational, won by Carmi-White County, who shot a 157.

The Bulldogs fired a 179 and finished in fourth place, behind Lawrenceville./Red Hill (166) and Mt. Carmel (177). Fairfield shot a 183 and Hamilton County carded a 180.

Individually, Grant Wilson had the low score for the Bulldogs, shooting a 41. Andrew Bittle carded a 43, while Ashton Hall finished with a 45 and Hayden Emery (50) and Krayton Morse (51) rounded out the top five scoring for Harrisburg.

Colby Morse shot a 64 for Harrisburg.

On the girls side, Harrisburg placed second, Madison McClusky and Gracie Behnke both medaled.

McClusky had a 45 to finish seventh overall, while Behnke shot a 51 for a 10th place finish.

Gabby Adams finished with a 54, while Laken Moore wasn't far behind, firing a 55. Madeleine DeNeal carded a 60.
