The Chester High School Boys Golf Team opened the 2019 season with back-to-back wins, beating Red Bud 170 to 179 on Aug. 21 and besting Zeigler-Royalton 170-203 on Aug. 22.
At Red Bud the Jackets and Musketeers faced off at the North County Country Club, under cloudy skies and 90 degrees temperatures. Jaden Mott kept his cool, however, and led the field with a 36 (+1) for nine holes, winning Low Medalist Honors for the match.
Teammate Jarrett James was on his heels with 38 and Kaden Freytag had a good outing, shooting 46. Chett Andrews was just four strokes behind Freytag with 50. Chance Mott shot a 54 and Reed Welborn rounded out varsity play with a 60.
"I am so proud of these young men," said Assistant Coach Paul Zemlyn. "When one of them has a not-so-great day, the others pick him up and together they have a good team score."
JV competition: Luke Miller led the Chester JV by shooting 48, followed by Clayton Andrews (57) and Brock Vasquez (58).
