On the final day of the Harold Harmsen Wooden Bat Classic the Steeleville American Legion baseball squad lost a heartbreaker to Sparta by a score of 6-5.
At first it looked like it might be an easy night for Steeleville. Their first three batters all reached base and scored through a combination of walks, batters hit by pitches and hits. But that would be all the scoring Steeleville would do for some time as Sparta rallied with two in the third and two in the fourth. Steeleville had another good inning with two runs in the sixth, but Sparta tallied single runs in the sixth and seventh to go home with the win.
Keith Kettner had a double for Steeleville and Patrick Heller, Andrew Pokrzywinski and Clint Young all added singles. Travis Carlock was the losing pitcher. He allowed 11 hits, walked two, and struck out three.
