Sparta teen Peyton Manker is one of 10 finalists in a 2020 contest to design prom dresses or tuxedos out of duct tape.
Yes, duct tape. The scholarship contest, called Stuck at Prom, has been held by Duck's Brand duct tape for 20 years now.
And in case this sounds impossible, there were 355 dress and tux entries this year.
Peyton is one of the five dress finalists. There are another five tux finalists.
Moreover, she needs your help to get her over the top. The public is invited to go online to StuckAtprom.com and vote for their favorite dress and tuxedo. The deadline to vote is July 10, so hurry.
If Peyton wins, it means a $10,000 scholarship. The eight runners-up receive $500 scholarships and Duck® Brand prize packs worth $100.
According to a news release from Duck Brand, Peyton used 41 rolls of Duck Tape and spent 395 hours working on her creation.
The judges selected the finalists by evaluating each Duck Tape® masterpiece on use of color and design, workmanship and originality. They also considered how the Duck Tape® was utilized in the creation of the dress or tux and accessories.
"Every year we are blown away by the creativity and imagination of our Stuck at Prom participants," says Ashley Luke, senior product manager at Duck Brand's parent company, Shurtape Technologies, LLC.
The two grand prize winners will be announced on or around July 21.
