Fifty-five donors came to the Chester blood drive Aug. 19 at the American Legion Post 487 in Chester, and 52 useable units collected - including three power red donations.

That surpassed the goal for the August drive of 44 units. The Red Cross will test for COVID-19 antibodies in all blood donations, so donors will find out if their immune systems have produced antibodies to the coronavirus, regardless of whether they had symptoms. (The test does not determine current symptoms).

Donors will also receive $5 Amazon gift cards in the mail.

The next Red Cross Blood Drive in Chester will be Sept. 3, sponsored by Memorial Hospital in Chester.
