Chester area veterans are wanted on Friday, Nov. 8 for two very special Veterans Day tributes at Chester High School and Chester Grade School.
A veterans breakfast will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Friday at Chester High School. The breakfast is free to all local veterans.
"We really hope that local veterans will join us again this year for a breakfast, so that we can show our appreciation for all that they have done for us with their service," said CHS Principal Missy Meyer.
During the breakfast, CHS students will have the opportunity to visit with their guests.
Once the breakfast has ended, veterans will be invited to make the short trek to Chester Grade School for a Veterans Day Assembly at 9:15 a.m. This will be a schoolwide assembly which will give students of all ages an opportunity to meet and greet the veterans and their guests, and learn about how important it is to show appreciation for all that they have done to help keep America free and safe.
The Chester Grade School Junior High Band, under the direction of Sue Colonel and the CGS Junior High Choir, under the direction of Steve Colonel, will perform.
Several classes in the school are preparing special gifts and presentations for the veterans and there will be several speakers.
Chester Police Chief Bobby Helmers will be the special guest speaker for the event. Light refreshments will also be available for the veterans.
All local Veterans are strongly encouraged to attend both events. No reservations are necessary but to get more information call Principal Meyer at (618) 826-2302 or Grade School Principal Bill Grafton at (618) 826-2354.
