SPRINGFIELD -- The SIU Centers for Family Medicine, in coordination with the State of Illinois and the Illinois Primary Health Care Association, is expanding access to COVID-19 testing for Illinoisans with COVID-19 symptoms and those at high risk.
The expansion of testing will help reduce the transmission of the disease and improve health outcomes for those in our communities. SIU Centers for Family Medicine in Carbondale, Quincy and Springfield are hosting sites beginning Monday, April 27.
Carbondale's testing site is located at the SIU Center for Family Medicine, 300 West Oak St., and is open for testing Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Quincy is traveling between two testing sites with their Wellness Express bus, with testing available from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The two Quincy testing sites are the SIU Center for Family Medicine, located at 612 N. 11th St., on Monday, Thursday and Friday, and Clayton Ball Park on Hwy 24 in Clayton, Illinois, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Springfield's new test site is located at the Sangamon County Department of Public Health, 2833 S. Grand Avenue East. Testing is available from 9 a.m. -- 3:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, in the parking area adjacent to the building.
Anyone with COVID-19-like illness or symptoms can be screened, without a doctor's order. Symptoms include fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and new loss of taste or smell, in accordance with the guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Symptomatic patients with the following criteria are especially encouraged to seek testing:
• exposure to an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19
• over 60 years of age
• has a chronic health condition
• works in an essential community service, such as a grocery store or child care facility
• resides in a temporary shelter
Testing is also available for those with or without symptoms who work in health care, corrections, serve as first responders, or work in other areas of the service economy.
