Carrier pigeon an unexpected visitor to Chester

  • This carrier pigeon visited Chester last week. The pigeon walked up Kevin Diercks' driveway on Wednesday, Nov. 10, and stopped under the car. Kevin was able to capture the pigeon and get the information from a band on his leg. Kevin's neighbor Pam Deterding then found a phone number, and Kevin's wife, Toni, was able to locate the owner -- Greg Bruckerhoff of Moscow Mills, Missouri. Bruckerhoff said the bird, a White Racing Homer named Walter, had been missing since Friday, Nov. 5, after an event in Freeburg. Bruckerhoff retrieved Walter the next day, and said Walter seemed a little underweight but otherwise was in good shape. The Dierckses think Walter enjoyed his evening at their home!
