Roy Dale Greer passed away at 3:21 a.m. on Saturday, May 29 at 3:21 a.m.

Roy was born Oct. 5, 1933 to Brosia and Esther (Kimbrough) Greer in Harrisburg. Roy was a Christian and had taught men's Sunday school classes at First Baptist and Little Chapel churches.

Roy was a coal miner at Sahara Coal Co., a mine manager at Peabody Eagle One and two other mines, and for 16 years was an inspector of mines for the state of Illinois, for a total of 45 years in the mining industry. In 1995, Roy married Bonnie Lewis and to this union, two children, Gary and Kim, were born. Roy was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War.

In 1977, Roy and Georgia (Miley) Ziegler were united in marriage, and she survives.

Roy is also survived by his daughter, Kim Brasher (Benny); his sister, Janette Leberman; stepson, Bob Ziegler (Brenda); stepdaughter, Kathy Johnson (Jerry); grandchildren, Josh Greer (Heather), Melissa Cossey, Shawn Brasher (Shana), Kelli Jo Morris (Joshua), Kyle Brasher (Shawna), Brian Ziegler (Karly), Brad Ziegler (Rachel), Brooke Sterns (Josh), Leann Miller (Ron), Kerry Taborn (Dean Jr.), Julie Gott (Jerod), Jenna Jones (Dustin), Jessica Moss (Caleb); 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Gary, and, his sister, Lucille Robinson Cook.

A memorial service for Roy Dale Greer will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Little Chapel Church in Raleigh. Darrell Eisenhauer, Roy's close friend and Sunday school teacher, will officiate.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Little Chapel Church. Memorials may be made in Roy's honor to Hospice of Southern Illinois Blue East Team, or Carmi Baptist Children's Home. Envelopes will also be available at the church and funeral home.
