The CHS Lady Jacket Volleyball Team lost two matches and won one in Week 6 of the 2021 volleyball season. Chester hosted Cahokia Conference rival Okawville on Sept. 28 losing in two sets, 24-26 and 21-25. On Sept. 30 Chester hosted Carlyle, another Cahokia Conference foe, losing in two sets, 20-25 and 19-25.
On Oct. 2 the Jackets got back on track in hosting nonconference foe, Elverado, winning in two sets, 25-18 and 25-17.
Okawville over CHS
The Lady Jackets had a rough match at Colbert Gym at CHS, falling in the first set 24-26 after three ties and four lead changes. The ladies from Chester led 2-0 early, but the Rockets tied the game, 2-2, and then took a quick, 3-2 lead.
Chester tied the game, 3-3 and retook the lead, 4-3 and did not look back until the final serves. With a 15-11 Lady Jacket advantage, Okawville called a time out to regroup. Chester extended its lead to 20-14 when Okawville called another time out.
The Rockets came out of the timeout and slowly edged their way back into the game. Okawville used a 9-4 run to come within one point, 24-23 at which time Chester Head Coach Colleen Runge called a time out.
On the first serve out of the time out Okawville tied the game, 24-24, and never looked back, winning 24-26.
Okawville dominated the second set early, running out to a 7-1 lead. Chester and Okawville both scored 4 points apiece with the Lady Rockets still leading, 11-5 midway through the set.
Okawville maintained its lead throughout the remainder of the match with Chester getting as close as four points, but that was at the very end as Okawville took the match, 21-25. With the loss, the Lady Jackets fell to an overall record of 9-6 and a Cahokia Conference record of 3-2.
Carlyle over CHS
The first time Chester faced Carlyle it was Sept. 7 at home, where the Jackets won in three sets. This time, Alyssa Seymour led the Jackets with three aces. Paige Vasquez led in digs with 10 and assists with nine. Mabry Wingerter led the team in kills with six and Kailyn Absher recorded a pair of solo blocks.
Jackets sweep Elverado for season
The Elverado Lady Eagles came to Colbert Gym on Oct. 2, where they fell to the Jackets in two sets, 25-18 and 25-17.
"Our offense was on fire," Coach Colleen Runge said. "Paige Vasquez and Jordan Buskohl both had some big kills to keep the momentum shifted to our side of the net. Kailyn Absher also played well defensively at the net."
Alyssa Seymour led the team with five aces and Paige Vasquez led in digs and kills with eight and nine respectively. Mabry Wingerter led in assists with one and both Kailyn Absher and Jordan Buskohl recorded two solo blocks apiece.
