CGS Jr. Jackets take third place at St. Mary's A Team tourney

The Chester Grade School Lady Jr. Jacket volleyball A Team recently placed third at the St. Mary's A Team Volleyball Tournament.

The Jr. Jackets consisted of Morgan Throop, Alyssa Coffey, Callie Davis, Anna Helvey-Ahring, Jessica Stumpe, Erin Liefer, Addy Gottschammer, Maggie Caby, Madison Stauffer, and Riley Lochhead. The Jr. Jackets are coached by Jenni Schroeder.

Eight teams competed in the event, including Evansville, Prairie DuRocher, Chester Grade School, St. John's Chester, Trico, Red Bud Lutheran, Steeleville/St. Mark, and a combined co-op team consisting of players from Red Bud Catholic, Chester St. Mary'sand Trinity.

The Lady Jr. Jackets played Evansville in the first round and won in two sets, 25-15 and 25-13. In the second game, CGS faced the co-op team of Red Bud Catholic/St. Mary's Catholic/Trinity and lost in three sets.

The co-op won the first set, 25-16. CGS won the second set, 25-22 to force a third, tiebreaking set. In the tiebreaker, the co-op won 15-9 to take the game.

In the third game of the tournament the Lady Jr. Jackets beat Trico in two sets, 27-25 and 25-20.

The St. John Lady Hornets of Chester won the tournament. The co-op team of Red Bud Catholic, Chester St. Mary's Catholic and Trinity finished second. Steeleville/St. Mark won the consolation championship.
