For the fifth straight year, Harrisburg baseball held up a IHSA regional plaque after the Bulldogs defeated Carmi-White County 9-4 Saturday in the 2A championship game.
Saturday's championship for the Bulldogs was also the 30th in school history and the 22nd under Harrisburg head coach Jay Thompson.
Harrisburg (29-6) built a 7-3 lead after two innings, thanks in large part to a 3-for-4 performance from Cameron Ande, where the junior drove in a run with a double in the first inning., He finished with two RBI and a run scored on the morning.
Riley King had a team-high three RBI as he went 1-for-4 on the day.
Bryant Lester and Jackson Pittman also had singles on the day as Pittman scored one run. Lester drove in one run and scored one run.
Ethan Golish, who drew a pair of walks against Carmi-White County, scored three runs, while Reed Rider scored twice. Ross Rider scored a run, touching home on a King single to left field in the second inning.
Pittman picked up the win on the mound for Harrisburg as the senior right hander went four innings, allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out seven and walking five.
Pittman is now 6-1 on the season, giving up 16 runs (seven earned) on 26 hits, while sporting a .936 ERA with 84 K's and just 26 walks.
Noah Arnold came on in relief and worked three innings, allowing one run (unearned) on three hits, while striking out three.
Harrisburg, winners of five straight games, will now take on Freeburg in the semifinals of the Benton 2A Sectional Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Freeburg, who beat Carterville 11-1 in the Red Bud Regional, also knocked off the Bulldogs in the last year's Super Sectional at SIU.
