Letter to the editor: Bryant says lockdown of state prisons must continue
To the editor: As 115th District state representative, I have been frustrated with recent policy decisions made by the Illinois Department of Corrections and the Pritzker Administration. Daily news reports are detailing multiple IDOC inmates and staff members are contracting COVID-19 and occupying hospital bed space in community hospitals. I warned Illinois Corrections officials a month ago that they should implement lockdown at state corrections facilities. Thankfully, IDOC did finally take the step to lockdown its facilities two weeks ago.

Riverboat passengers could provide boon to Chester businesses
To the editor (an open letter to the Chester business community): Please join us to learn about the visiting riverboats and how your business and our community can benefit from their passengers becoming our guests. The visiting riverboats and their guests have been increasing in numbers and we would like to discuss ideas and strategies to not only improve their experience but to increase their spending while they are here and keep them coming to our lovely little town.

Letter to the editor: Time will come when there are no refs left to abuse
To the editor: I enjoyed reading your column ("Too many adults behaving badly at kids' games," Jan. 30, by John Homan) on fan behavior at sporting events. I have been an IHSA-licensed official for 28 years. Some people might say not a very good one, but just like all my officiating buddies, I always do my best and make it my goal to be fair, be in position, and get the call right.

Florida family thankful for Marion
To the editor: We are snowbirds, traveling from Minnesota to Florida each year. Several weeks ago, we were planning to stay in Marion overnight at a local motel. Instead, I suffered a heart emergency. Your town was incredible!
