St. John Lutheran VBS invites kids to set sail for 'Adventure Island'
St. John Lutheran Church in Chester invites children ages three through grade six to an island adventure. Vacation Bible School "Discovery on Adventure Island" will be from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday to Friday, July 20-22 in the school. The adventure will include music, crafts, games, cooking, snacks and Bible stories.

Humane society benefits from Buchheit's fundraiser
Buchheit stores raised $5,239 this May as part of their annual Pet Pantry fundraiser. Buchheit of Sparta donated its proceeds to the Randolph County Humane Society. The funds raised were presented in the form of a Buchheit gift card, so necessary supplies such as food, kennels and other necessities can be purchased as needed.

A love of poetry is alive and well in Chester. The evidence? Students from St. Mary's School, Chester Grade School and Chester High School won 11 of 18 student prizes in the 2022 Southwestern Illinois College Poetry Contest.
